The
government has also cut entry tax on refrigerators,
air-conditioners and AC plants to 1 per cent from 5 per
cent, besides reducing rates on writing paper, drinking
and packing to 2 per cent.
The
tax cut was announced by Chief Minister Mayawati here.
Commodities
on which VAT rates have been slashed from 12.5 per cent to
4 per cent include dry fruits, coffee beans and seeds,
coco beans and seeds, green leaf tea, all types of pipes
including GI, CI and PVC including fittings.
Rates
on processed and preserved vegetables and fruits, fruit
juice and drinks, medical equipment, devices and implants,
electronic typewriter, headphone and earphone, telephone
answering machine have also been cut.
Radio,
television, digital still video image camera, LED and LCD
panel and their spares, electronic calculator, UPS and
spares, cordless handsets, line telephone set, digital
line system and video phones would also cost less in the
state.
The
government last year hiked tax rates on a majority of
items to 12.5 per cent as a rate rationalisation exercise.
