Uttar Pradesh - VAT, entry tax on mobiles, comps gets effective from today

The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a notification giving effect to the VAT hike and entry tax levy from today.

While cell phones will continue to have four per cent VAT, entry tax will also not be levied on them, official sources said here.

Similarly, computers and laptops would continue to have four per cent tax but an additional entry tax of two percent will be levied on them, they said.

The state cabinet, on September 19, had proposed 12.5 per cent tax on cell phones and computers plus two per cent entry tax leading to state-wide protests by comptuer traders.

The notification issued yesterday is, however, expected to relieve mobile and computer dealers and consumers.
