It’s final! VAT from next year in Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has given its go-ahead to the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the state from January 1, 2008.

In its meeting on Friday the Cabinet said VAT was to be implemented from December but it was delayed as the President took some time to grant permission.

According to information, the computerisation work required to bring the state under the new tax regime has been completed at the trade tax department and officers have been imparted necessary training. Besides, officials of the department have held several rounds of meetings and organised workshops for traders to provide them with information regarding VAT.

The state has been divided into 22 zones for collection of the tax.
