Punjab - Service tax mela organised

A Service Tax registration mela was organised by Central Excise Commissionerate today. The mela was inaugurated by A.K. Mehra, Commissioner, Central Excise Ludhiana.



 

Till afternoon on the first day of the Mela, 21 assesses got themselves registered and Rs 4.68 lakhs were deposited voluntarily by the assesses. The mela was assisted by Suvir Mishra, Additional Commissioner, Central Excise, Ludhiana, Amarjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner (STC), Central Excise, Ludhiana, and V.M. Verma, Assistant Commissioner, Central Excise, Division-III, Ludhiana. Vishal Garg, president of Chartered Accountants’ Chapter of Ludhiana was also present on the occasion. Free booklets of “Frequently asked questions” on service tax were distributed to all those who visited the mela.

A.K. Mehra invited all the unregistered assesses to get registered with the department for their respective categories of services rendered by them. He also emphasised that all the service providers should exhibit a note in their offices showing “Service Tax 12.36% Extra”.

He also advised the assesses to deposit their Service Tax after collecting the same from their clients, otherwise they would have to bear the burden of tax on their own later on. During the mela, the facility of de-registration will also be provided to those who do not need their registration owing to their falling under enhanced exemption limits. He also stressed that the assesses could opt for Service Tax Dispute Resolution Scheme, 2008.
