Moving
forward with its campaign to save energy, UT
administration has slashed Value Added Tax (VAT) on the
sale of power-saving Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) from
the existing 12.5 per cent to 4 per cent.
The CFL lamps, besides being power-savers, also have a
longer life, devoid of any voltage fluctuations and are
a boon for your monthly electricity bills.
Confirming the move, UT finance secretary, SK Sandhu
said, "We would issue a notification in this regard
within a couple of days."
Added
UT chief engineer, VK Bhardwaj, "The administration
has decided to replace the existing electrical bulbs in
UT secretariat and other government departments with the
CFL tubes."
According to a city-based CFL tubes supplier, Narender
Rawal, by using CFL tubes instead of electrical bulbs,
in both household and industrial sector, one can save up
to 80 per cent of one's monthly electricity bill.
"Besides, CFL tubes have a life of two years
without power fluctuations and don't generate heat
around them. The price range of CFL tubes is between Rs
90 and Rs 750 for 5 to 65 watts," he informed.
However, Rawal cautioned about low-quality and duplicate
Chinese CFL tubes which could be bought for a paltry
Rs.15. "One should always buy branded CFL
tubes," he added.
