The
VAT collections have touched a level of Rs 6,441 crore in
2007-08 as compared to meagre collections of Rs 2,962 crore in
2003-04, a senior official of Haryana Excise and Taxation
Department said.
Haryana
was the first state in the country which switched over to VAT
format in 2003-04.
The
state has been achieving an average growth rate of 20 per cent
in VAT collections on year-on-year basis.
As
per date provided by the department, the state collected Rs
3,731 crore in 2004-05 with a growth of 25.96 per cent, Rs
4,405 crore in 2005-06 with a rise of 18.07 per cent and Rs
5,366 crore in 2006-07 with 21.82 per cent growth.
During
2007-08, the state continued to witness buoyancy in VAT
collections for the fifth year in a row as the state collected
Rs 6,441 crore, posting 20 per cent growth in overall
collections, even as there is a slowdown in the industrial
sector led by automotive segment.
"The
state has been able to achieve Rs 6,441 crore as total VAT
collections despite the fact that auto sector observed flat
growth," he said, adding construction and FMCG sectors
helped the state to achieve higher VAT collections.
Out
of the total tax collections, taxes from auto and petroleum
sectors constitute 20 and 26 per cent respectively, he said.
