With VAT no need for octroi alternative in Gujarat: Modhwadia

Leader of opposition in the State Assembly Arjun Modhwadia has alleged that the State Government was misleading on octroi alternative issue. He said that the government had earned revenue of Rs.3200 crore from VAT and there was no need to levy alternate tax.

He said that octroi abolition announcement was just a poll promise of Modi government and it was fooling people. He said that in the last year the government make announcement about octroi under the pressure of trade and industry. VAT was an alternative to octroi but throughout the year government did not bother to manage its funds. He said that people have to bear the double burden of both octroi and tax.

Referring to arrears of state government employees Modhwadia said that Modi had smartly announced payment in March 2008. Probably that time the BJP would not be in power and he would have no botheration.
