New Zealand - GST advisory panel announced

An advisory panel will be set up to assist with the increase in goods and services tax (GST), Revenue Minister Peter Dunne says.

The private sector GST advisory panel will help businesses and the Government implement the GST increase to 15 percent as announced in the budget yesterday.

The GST increase will come into force on October 1.

Retired accountant Frank Owen will chair the panel. Other members included tax barrister David McLay, tax director Craig Macalister, Business New Zealand chief executive Phil O'Reilly and New Zealand Retailers Association director Karen Radford.

Mr Dunne said the panel would advise businesses on common concerns and liaise with the IRD to ease the transition.
