Meet from today to discuss GST implementation  

The proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) system is likely to get some special focus at the two-day all-India annual conference of the Chief Commissioners’ and Directors General of Customs and Central excise beginning here from Tuesday.

Plans are afoot to discuss administration related issues and also the preparedness of the Revenue Department on the implementation of the new tax system. The Centre has already agreed on a dual-GST structure – there will be a Central and State GST.

The two-day conference, organised by the Central Board of Excise & Customs, will be inaugurated by the Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee. The Minister of State for Finance, Mr S.S. Palanimanickam, will preside over the valedictory function on Wednesday.

The conference will also focus on the functioning of the Revenue Department and the emerging challenges before it.
