"More than
two-third of respondents are not in favour of dual GST.
About 75 per cent of respondents for telecom, transport
and logistics segments are not in favour of dual GST,"
Deloitte said in a pre-GST survey released here.
The Empowered Committee on GST headed by West Bengal
Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta has agreed to a dual
structure of the proposed indirect tax regime, which is
likely to be introduced from April 2010.
The new tax regime would do away with most of the
indirect taxes levied at the Centre like excise and
services tax, and VAT and Octroi at the State level.
The survey also pointed out that the introduction of
dual GST with the few states not coming on board on
April 1, 2010 is a distinct possibility that is not
fancied by many respondents.
The survey
includes 304 respondents across various industry
segments.
