States
have decided that aviation turbine fuel (ATF) would not
be given declared goods status, he clarified.
Some
states, he further said, have raised issues about
compensation for loss.
On the
issue of opposition by DMK, Gupta said, he has explained
the structure of GST to the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister
and that they are trying to convince the state to come
on board GST. He said he was hopeful that April 1, 2010
deadline would be met.
The impact
of GST on essential goods will be that prices would come
down, Dasgupta said.
