'Finmin eyes statute changes, seeks law min's views'  


The finance ministry has asked the law ministry if the Constitution could be amended for giving equal powers to the Centre and the states, for paving the way for the proposed GST implementation.



 

The finance ministry has sough the views of the law and justice ministry on the feasibility of introducing a Fourth List in the Constitution that may invest the Centre and the states with equal powers to impose taxes under the new tax regime (goods and services tax).

The law ministry is likely to give its opinion on amending the Constitution to incorporate the Fourth List within a week, finance ministry sources said.

"The law ministry has to get back... we expect their views within a week," a senior ministry official told PTI.
