VAT revenue to boost development of Delhi: Sheila

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday declared that 30 per cent additional revenue generation through Value Added Tax would further boost the development of Delhi.

Speaking at the State Level Republic Day function at Chhatrasal Stadium, where she unfurled the national flag and took salute of a parade by a contingent of the Delhi police, three wings of NCC, Home Guard, Civil Defence, Delhi Fire Service and school children, Ms. Dikshit said there has been facelift of Delhi during the past eight years because of all-round development.



 

She enumerated works in the field of education, public transport including Delhi Metro, pollution control, health, Right to Information, opening of new schools and colleges, roads, flyovers, underpasses foot over bridges as major achievements of her Government.

With the revenue collection increasing by 30 per cent following introduction of VAT in Delhi, the Chief Minister said the amount collected is being utilised for accelerating the developmental works.

During the event an investiture ceremony also took place where the Delhi Transport Corporation driver Kuldeep Singh was awarded `Uttam Jivan Rakshak Padak' for showing exemplary courage. Mr. Singh had saved the lives of many bus passengers as he had thrown out a bomb that had been planted in his bus by terrorists. However, in the process he had got injured and lost his eyes. Ms. Dikshit also awarded medals to seven best NCC cadets, junior and senior under officers and cadet under officers on this occasion.

In her speech, Ms. Dikshit also spoke about how the Bhagidari movement has helped the Government in providing transparent and responsive administration and curb corruption.
