Tamil Nadu - Plea to remove VAT on wheat products

The Tamil Nadu Roller Flour Mills Association on Wednesday urged the government to remove the Value Added Tax (VAT) levied on wheat at 2 per cent and wheat products at 5 per cent even as traders from Karnataka dumped their products using bogus bills.

In a representation, association secretary R. Kanthimathinathan stated that VAT was not levied on wheat and wheat products in Karnataka and Puducherry. Wheat products are brought to Tamil Nadu through Hosur and Kolar Gold Field routes. The State should step up vigil at check posts to prevent the arrival of wheat products without genuine bill.
