Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal held a meeting on Friday.
It passed a resolution maintaining that new value added
tax (VAT) forms 23 and 24 were not acceptable and it was
not possible to use them.
The meeting was held under chairmanship of Amrit Lal
Jain. Amrit said more than 1,800 items were given on the website of the excise
and taxation department with their code numbers to be filled in by
VAT-registered dealers in their quarterly returns. The mandal outrightly
rejected the new VAT forms. "This new VAT form has made traders bonded labourers
and clerks of the department," it was expressed.
They requested chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to withdraw the directive
concerned and allow filing of quarterly VAT returns in old VAT forms 23 and 24.
All the district units of Beopar Mandal in the state will submit a memorandum to
the chief minister for withdrawal of the notification. The mandal's
representatives will proceed with black cloth on their shoulders as a mark of
protest.
