Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative
Assembly and senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse on Tuesday
criticised the state government for the delay in
effecting reduction of 2% in VAT on diesel and kerosene.
“The announcement was made last week saying that it was
aimed to minimise the burden of fuel hike on consumers,
but the notification to the effect is yet to be issued,"
Khadse told reporters.
The BJP leader said kerosene and diesel prices were
hiked immediately after the announcement. “Why is it that a decision which can
provide some relief to the people is delayed by over a week?” he asked.
Meanwhile, Khadse said BJP would oppose the proposed move of the state excise
department to allow bars to remain open past midnight till 3am in he Mumbai,
Thane.
