The traders at the meeting expressed their deep concern
with the new form saying it was “too complicated to be filled in by us.”
The meeting criticized some Jammu-based traders’ leaders
who had called for certain modifications in the form to make it acceptable to
the traders.
President KTF Jan Muhammad Koul said the new form would
in no way be acceptable to the traders no matter any modifications are made in
it.
He said the Tax Department had itself “accepted” that
the traders to fill this form would require the services of an experienced
accountant, besides a computer. “How can average traders in the Valley afford
these things,” he said. Koul said if the government did not withdraw the form,
“60 per cent of the traders would surrender their TINs before the Tax
Department.”
