Choudhry said this while speaking in the meeting of Empowered
Committee of Finance Ministers of states in New Delhi. The meeting was presided
over by the Chairman of the Empowered Committee, Sushil Kumar Modi, and attended
by ministers from various states and officers from the central and state
governments.
Choudhry said that against the CST claim of Rs 2249.63 crore for the year
2010-11, the state has received only Rs 356 crore. Also, Haryana has filed
compensation claim worth Rs 4015.23 crore for previous three years —
2007-08,2008-09 and 2009-10 — but has been paid only Rs 2969.02 crore. Goods and
Services Tax (GST) has not yet been introduced and with the CST rate at two per
cent, states like Haryana are regularly incurring huge losses, she added.
On the issue of CST compensation, Sushil Kumar Modi indicated that a meeting of
National Development Council will be held in New Delhi on October 22, where it
was expected that the issue will be taken up with the Union Finance Minister.
Regarding imposition of tax on textile and sugar, Choudhry said that with
inflation is at its peak and economy showing signs of sluggishness, any
additional tax on textile and sugar — which are items of daily consumption —
will further hit the common man.
