The administrator of Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar
Haveli (DNH), Narendra Kumar today announced a decrease
of five per cent in the Value Added Tax (VAT) for diesel
prices in the two Union Territories (UT). The
announcement was made on the occasion of 58th Liberation
Day of DNH by Kumar, who further said, "Five per cent
VAT is being reduced on diesel, which earlier was 20 per
cent. Now it will come down to 15 per cent and help
minimise the burden of inflation on the consumers."
Kumar said the price of diesel in the two UTs was higher
than Maharashtra, but after the reduction in VAT, it
will come down. Daman Petroleum Dealer Association
President Aspi Damania told to PTI that rate of diesel
in Gujarat was Rs 47.71, while in the UTs was Rs 45.04.
After reduction of 5 per cent VAT, the price in the two
UTs would come down to Rs 43, he said. Earlier, the 58th
Liberation Day of DNH was celebrated with great pomp
marking independence of the UT from Portuguese rule on
August 2, 1954. Kumar, in his address, said that DNH was
developing progressively in health, education,
industries and tourism sector. He further added that the
Central government had sanctioned supply of 1320 MW
Electric power from Navsari to give quality electric
power to industries in the UT.
